Toxic Relationship Among University Students.

 

Dating and having an interest in dating is an instrumental part of merging into young adulthood.Rising social expectations for heterosexual dating along with increased biological motivations,socio -emotional intelligence and cognitive maturity further encourage young people to engage in romance.

Research shows that violence in dating relationship has increased rather significally over the past several decades.The reality is one in five college relationships is in unhealthy.

Effects of unhealthy relationships

Dating violence has been associated with depression, anxiety and lowered self esteem.other consequences that have been linked to dating violence include eating disorders substance abuse 

Somatization suicidal ideation lowered academic performance and other additional risky behavior.

Why stay in unhealthy relationships

Cultural aspects eg male dominance.

Neglect of a child.

Control and dominance.

Previous exposure to unhealthy relationships.

Because some people think getting justice isn't easy.statistics show that 60%of rape/sexual assault are not reported to the police, according to a statistical average of the past 5yrs 

Some people also may stay unhealthy in relationships because the victim often knows their abuser well and they are reluctant to report because they fear to get the person in trouble.
